Examples of a Good and Bad Marketing Ad

This ad in my opinion is less than effective in regards to marketing a product so that the consumer will buy this particular product over another. At first glance I see an over sized brush with some sort of a mesh design in the back. The heading reads "Lashes that want it all, can have it all". My question is what exactly is having it all? Where does it show ME the consumer what exactly I can have? Bottom line is when I personally am shopping for mascara I want it to give me longer, fuller looking lashes that when applied not only do I have amazing eyes but maybe just maybe I look like a super model as a result of applying their product. This ad doesn't tell me a thing! Wait I stand corrected....it states in very small itty bitty print that Drew Berrymore wears this stuff. Ohhh ahhhh! I think they can do better!
Now this is an example of an effective way to sell mascara using advertising. As a consumer I am clear as to what the product is that they are selling and what it will do for ME if I were to purchase and use it. They even added an extra twist of showing very clearly how it works with a beautiful example of what my eyes will look like should I use their product. Brilliant!

  1. Hey Carla, An interesting interpretation. Perhaps the layout is not the problem with the first - it is the product identification. SO the way you change your advertisement will be more about the imagery and product description - A little different than the others.
